Affiliate Links

Dad Reviews It participates in the Amazon affiliate program. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

We may also receive compensation from the manufacturers of some of the products we discuss on this website, and from Amazon or other third parties via affiliate links.

What’s an affiliate link, how does this affect you, why does it matter, and what’s our policy on compensation and affiliate links?

An affiliate link is a type of link that allows a product manufacturer or Amazon to track what happens after a link is clicked, and where a visit to a website originated from.

It looks something like this:

rfsn=617330.8cc94&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=87421.8ca83&subid=DADREVS

So basically that long link allows a manufacturer to determine that a visit to their site comes from DadReviewsIt. If a visitor to their site ends up purchasing something, they compensate us.  It’s really a win-win situation for you and us.  It costs you nothing, and we get a cut of the sale if we refer you by providing helpful and honest reviews of a product or service.

How does this affect you? Clicking on an affiliate link does not change the price you’ll pay for a product – there’s absolutely no cost to you. The manufacturer (or Amazon, or whoever) covers the commission to us. It’s usually between 5-10% of the cost of the product. When you click an affiliate link a “cookie” is used to track your visit. Cookies are used by most of the websites on the entire internet, and don’t pose privacy or security risks (we can’t tell anything about you as an individual, only broad metrics about how our links perform.)

Why is this important? First of all, we want to be transparent about the fact that we might be receiving payment for affiliate link purchases by users of our site – we believe this is the right thing to do, and is done in the interest of transparency. Additionally, the FTC requires that we disclose the presence of affiliate links, so there’s that.

Also, affiliate links are super important to us because they generate revenue that funds the development of this blog. We hope you’ll view them as a win-win. If you found value in some information or reviews we provided, and are considering purchasing a product, if you click on an affiliate link and end up purchasing, that helps us out. If that bothers you for any reason, just don’t click the link.  Simple as that.

Collection of data through affiliate links. Some affiliate marketing software may collect personal information when you interact with our digital property, including IP addresses, digital identifiers, information about your web browsing and app usage and how you interact with our properties and ads for a variety of purpose, such as personalization of offers or advertisements, analytics about how you engage with websites or ads, and other commercial purposes.

Amazon Affiliate Links (Amazon Associates)

We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program which allows us to earn a commission by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

In Conclusion

We hope this disclosure resonates with you and helps you understand how we may be compensated by affiliate links within our site.  If this doesn’t sit well with you or makes you uncomfortable, we understand.  In this case we would politely ask that you not click any links within our site, and instead do your own due diligence when deciding whether to purchase any product or service we may review or recommend.

Sincerely,

Jeff (admin@dadreviewsit.com)
